The past day has been painful for gunners all over the world. Arsenal's superstar striker, Vivianne Miedema, announced that she will leave Arsenal after the end of this season. Almost everyone is asking why Vivianne Miedema is leaving Arsenal.
Vivianne Miedema
1. Her Stories
Born on July 15, 1996, Anna Margaretha Marina Astrid "Vivianne" Miedema hails from the Friesland Province in the northern part of the Netherlands. The favorable climate of this region, known for its thriving dairy industry, contributed to Miedema's tall and strong physical attributes. Growing up in the city of Heerenveen, Miedema began playing football at the age of 5, joining her father on the field. Her passion for the sport, coupled with her dazzling football talent, led to her scoring numerous goals in various youth competitions. Remarkably, she made her debut for the senior team of SC Heerenveen at the tender age of 15.

At the age of 18, Miedema's stellar performance, marked by 39 goals, earned her the title of the brightest future star of 2014. Such remarkable achievements caught the attention of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who brought her into their ranks without hesitation.
After her transfer to Bayern, she wasted no time in making an impact with her new club. Over the three years and 61 appearances for Bayern, she impressively scored 35 goals. If she was considered a budding superstar upon joining Bayern, by 2017, Miedema had transformed into a globally renowned super striker.
On August 6, 2017, she scored two goals in the Women's EURO final, helping the Netherlands stage a comeback against Denmark to ultimately claim the championship. Such a remarkable performance also brought the spotlight of the WSL onto her.
2. Legendary Achievements
125 goals and 50 assists, WSL goal records breaker, BBC Women's Footballer of the Year and 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup runner-up. Indeed, she's achieved greatness that transcends words and numbers.
3. Reasons Why She leaves
We speculate that new challenges, Arsenal's increasingly competitive forward line, and contractual issues are the reasons why this great Dutch player has chosen to leave.
Since joining Arsenal in 2017, Miedema has proven herself to be one of the most powerful forwards in women's football. At just 27 years old, pursuing more championships and thrilling challenges should be her new goals as she enters her prime.
Additionally, Arsenal's increasingly formidable attacking lineup has also allowed Miedema to leave the club she loves with confidence. After suffering a terrifying ACL injury in 2023 and spending nearly a year recovering, followed by another knee surgery in March this year, during her absence, forwards like Beth Mead and Alessia Russo have stepped up to contribute well to the attack. In this season's WSL matches, they have scored 48 goals in 21 games. As a result, Arsenal's attack has matured and evolved, gradually becoming accustomed to playing without Miedema and breaking free from heavy reliance on her.
According to reports from The Acast, Miedema extended her contract with Arsenal twice, once in 2022 and again in 2023. Therefore, it can be inferred that the collaboration between the Gunners and the Dutch forward was on a year-to-year basis. So, this summer, when the contract was set to expire and both parties decided not to continue the partnership, Miedema naturally became a free agent.
4. Where Will She Go?
According to multiple media reports, Vivianne Miedema's most likely next destination is Manchester City, the dominant force in the WSL. After all, her abilities and salary demands require a club strong enough to match them.
What can we say, God bless her.
